Every once in awhile I am reminded that even though my father and I are both Chinese, we are culturally different Chinese people, and it’s not because I’m half.

and that’s just weird for me

What’s also weird is that my grandfather was born in 1900 in mainland China. It’s not the longevity of his life that blows my mind, he’s not alive, but that he was around for the fall of the Qing Empire, or just for the fall of any empire. Because that just seems so far away.

I’m getting a little sidetracked in my studying…
